Phillies vs Braves Pickswise Expert Predictions

Run Line Pick
ATL Braves Win -1.5(+120)

The Philadelphia Phillies were 10.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves entering their matchup on Saturday, but when it comes to these two teams, no game is a guarantee. A thrilling back-and-forth game ended in four runs for the Phillies in the 10th inning, giving them a confidence-building win over their rival and the division’s best team. The Phillies will send Aaron Nola to the mound on Sunday to try to win the series, while the Braves counter with Chris Sale for a potential pitching duel.

The problem is that Nola hasn’t been at his best for Philadelphia this season. He owns a 5.06 ERA overall and allowed three or more earned runs in five of his six starts. In his most recent start against the Chicago Cubs, he had his worst outing, allowing five earned runs and losing his control with four walks over just 4.1 innings. The Braves have also hit him well in a massive sample size, with the worst average amongst the regulars being .268, and Austin Riley, Matt Olson, Ronald Acuna Jr, and Michael Harris combining for 16 home runs.

Sale has been one of the league’s best pitchers since joining the Braves, and that hasn’t changed this season. He allowed one earned run in back-to-back games, and despite getting himself into some trouble, his elite strikeout stuff is still there to get him out of those jams. I’ve got no problem backing him to get the Braves back on track here and avoid losing a series to the division’s worst team.

Phillies vs Braves prediction: Braves -1.5 (+120) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.
