Jackson Merrill was the hero of the game for San Diego, and the team will look to carry that momentum into Thursday’s game. Thursday’s matchup is an interesting one with neither starting pitcher yet to find their best form. Both teams are well built with strong bullpens and talented offensive firepower, making this a tough game to pick.

Walker Buehler was knocked around by the Giants and Red Sox in his first 2 starts, offenses that have not been their best this spring. His 3rd and most recent outing was more successful, however, tossing 6 scoreless frames against the Rockies. Zero walks allowed him to earn those 18 outs in just 68 pitches, so he should be fresh for this start tonight. Seattle is a clear step up in competition from Colorado, but I expect a decent outing from the veteran right-hander in this spot.

Luis Castillo tossed 6 scoreless frames against the Yankees in his season debut, but despite the result, he didn’t look overpowering in that outing. He has failed to get out of the 4th inning in his last 2 outings, allowing 10 combined earned runs with 18 batters reaching base in 7 innings. San Diego is a top-heavy offense with firepower at the start; I would like to see better form from Castillo before betting on him in any fashion.
