Cardinals vs Pirates Pickswise Expert Predictions

Money Line Pick
PIT Pirates Win(-125)

The Pittsburgh Pirates look to avoid being swept at home against the St. Louis Cardinals, sending 23-year-old Bubba Chandler (4.88 ERA, 1.50 WHIP) on the mound. The right-handed starter is coming off his worst start of the season, surrendering 6 ER in 4.0 innings, but the Pirates’ bullpen has been trending upwards as of late posting a top-7 combined ERA mark (3.49) despite an outlier game on Tuesday. Chandler’s counterpart Andre Pallante (4.26 ERA, 1.42 WHIP) has had a pair of errant starts this season with a significantly weaker bullpen unit ready in relief.

Offensively, the Pirates have stronger splits when facing right-handed pitchers like Pallante, posting a top-10 OBP mark (.355) along with a slightly above-average 102 wRC+. Nick Gonzales, Oneil Cruz and Ryan O’Hearn have all been on strong stretches individually over the last two weeks, and I’ll lean on that trio to produce some results against a suspect pitching staff. I’ve got the Pirates winning this one outright.
