The St. Louis Cardinals and Athletics are set for a Wednesday night showdown at Sutter Health Park. St. Louis took the first game of this series by a score of 6-4 on Tuesday night. The pitching matchup in this one pits St. Louis’ Matthew Liberatore against J.T. Ginn of the Athletics. Libertore has been very hittable early on this season, as opponents currently boast an OPS of .802 against him. He enters this contest with an ERA just above 4.00, and given the fact that the Athletics rank 8th in baseball with a team OPS of .724, the 26-year-old left-hander could have his hands full.

Ginn is coming off his best outing of the season, and arguably the best start of his career. On Thursday, Ginn tossed 8.0 innings of 1-run ball against the Phillies while allowing just 4 hits. However, it’s tough to expect another stellar performance like that in this one. The Phillies have been among the worst offensive teams in baseball this season, and the Cardinals present a much tougher challenge. In addition, that outing marked the first time that Libertore had thrown more than 6.0 innings in a game since September of last year. He hasn’t been a depth guy, and with the Athletics’ bullpen ranking 24th in baseball with a 4.67 ERA, the Cardinal offense could be setup for success in this one. Look to the over in this one.
