Rays vs Red Sox Pickswise Expert Predictions

Money Line Pick
TB Rays Win(+105)

The Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox were rained out on Saturday, and with the extra day off, both teams are ready to take the field. The Boston Red Sox picked up a 2-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night behind a dominant outing from Connelly Early, who tossed seven scoreless innings. Offense was hard to come by in that matchup, and this game could follow a very similar script with another strong pitching duel on deck. For the Rays, Nick Martinez will get the nod, who is 3-1 with a 1.71 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP through 7 starts, while the Red Sox hand the ball to Payton Tolle — a lefty that sits at 1-1 with a 2.04 ERA and a 0.74 WHIP through 3 starts.

While the Rays couldn’t get anything going offensively on Friday night, they’re still the better team on paper. Tampa Bay ranks 18th in OPS this season (.700) while the Red Sox rank 28th (.667), and the Rays rank 17th in runs scored per game (4.4) while the Red Sox sit 25th (4.0). Admittedly, Nick Martinez hasn’t been great against the Red Sox in his career — 1-3 with a 5.80 ERA through 9 starts — but he’s pitching at a completely different level this season. Not to mention, this version of the Red Sox has struggled offensively. With Tampa Bay’s stronger overall offense, I expect them to bounce back at Fenway today as a slight underdog.

Rays vs Red Sox prediction: Tampa Bay Rays ML (+105) at the time of publishing. Playable up to -105.
