Tampa Bay Rays vs Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 04/19/26

Friday night’s matchup between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Pittsburgh Pirates resulted in a 5-1 Pittsburgh win. Bubba Chandler tossed 6 innings of 1-run ball in that outing and the bullpen held it down behind him. Pittsburgh hoped to get another efficient start from Paul Skenes on Saturday, but rain ended his day early after 4 strong innings of work. The result was an already overworked bullpen being thrown into another bullpen day, especially when the Pirates allowed 5 runs to Tampa Bay in the 5th inning alone. The Pirate bullpen is heavily taxed entering today’s matchup, putting heavy pressure on Mitch Keller to work deep into his start.

Keller has been used to a heavy workload over the years, and his outs recorded prop sits at 17.5 today. The over on that prop is my favorite angle in this game due to his expected leash, but I also prefer him over Shane McClanahan in this matchup. Keller has allowed just a 3%-barrel rate so far while his average exit velocity allowed ranks 88th percentile. McClanahan ranks 38th percentile in average exit velocity allowed and is allowing an 11.8%-barrel rate so far. Both pitchers have been walking too many guys, but Keller has not shown that to be a major concern in previous seasons. I expect a strong start from Keller but would like to avoid the Pirates bullpen, leading me to choose Pittsburgh through the first 5 innings of play.
