Spurs vs Thunder Pickswise Expert Predictions

Point Spread Pick
OKC Thunder -5.5(-110)

After taking a win in a crucial game four, the San Antonio Spurs will travel back to Oklahoma City to take on the Thunder in a pivotal game five. Game four was a lopsided victory for the Spurs. San Antonio took advantage of a bad shooting night for the Thunder. A desperate Spurs defense was able to hold the Thunder to 82 total points and 18% shooting from three-point range. The Thunder missed both Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell in this game. Both players missed the game with leg injuries, and they are both questionable for game five. With Williams and Mitchell out of the lineup, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had to shoulder most of the ball-handling for the Thunder. The Spurs defense was able to key in on the two-time MVP and held him to 19 points on 6 of 15 shooting, his worst game of the series. The games the Thunder have been able to win this series has been because of their depth, and their role players were not able to step up in the absence of their injured teammates. Jared McCain scored only 4 points on 1 of 10 shooting, Jaylin Williams scored 3 points on 1 of 7 shooting, Aaron Wiggins scored 4 points on 2 of 11 shooting, and Alex Caruso scored 0 points in 14 minutes played. The Spurs defense deserves credit, but with the next game set to be played on the Thunders’ home floor, I expect these numbers for these role players to look better for game five. For the Spurs, the main player I’m looking at for game five is Stephon Castle. Castle played great in both games three and four, and he was able to be the frontrunner for the Spurs fast-paced attack. Castle now needs to keep that same level of play up in Oklahoma City, the arena where he had 20 total turnovers between games one and two. If the Thunder can pressure Castle into another high turnover game, the Thunder should be able to flip the tempo back to their preferred pace of play. These teams have gone back and forth in controlling this series. The Spurs and the Thunder have truly shown to be the best matchup in the NBA. In a crucial game five, I am going to have a slight lean towards the Thunder and their experience over the young Spurs. There are times when the Spurs offense can rely too heavily on Victor Wembanyama’s perimeter offense or De’Aaron Fox’s playmaking, and it has resulted in lengthy scoreless periods for San Antonio. We have already seen the Thunder’s poise in big moments, and we know it will show in game five. On his home court, I expect the MVP to bounce back and lead his team to victory.

Thunder -5.5 is available at the time of publishing. Playable at that number.
