The Baltimore Ravens brought an end to their major offseason issue when QB Lamar Jackson signed a 5-year extension in April, not long after it seemed as if the relationship between him and the team may have broken down entirely. With that saga now in the the rear-view mirror, we can refocus on whether the Ravens can make the step from being a pretty good team to one that can challenge for another Super Bowl win.

The Ravens’ last two seasons have had a familiar look, with Jackson not making it past Week 13 either time due to injury. QB has not been the team’s worst position for injuries, however, with Baltimore running backs seemingly blowing out knees the second they step on the practice field. Many observers believe this can still be a dangerous team given a clear run at it, but that has not been the case for the last couple of years.

The team should receive a boost with the arrival of new offensive coordinator Todd Monken to replace Greg Roman, whose schemes could be pedestrian, although it remains to be seen how well Monken’s more enterprising approach will mesh with Jackson’s game.

Let’s examine the odds and best bets to be made on the Baltimore Ravens this season.

Baltimore Ravens 2022 season recap

The Ravens crept into the AFC Playoffs as the #6 seed but went out in the wildcard round with Tyler Huntley at QB despite a competitive effort against the Bengals, with a 98-yard fumble-return TD proving to be the key play in the game. They could not have made a more inconsistent start, alternating wins and losses in their first 7 games before a mid-season run of 6 wins in 7 games. Jackson had been injured near the end of that run, but the team managed a 3-3 finish to reach a double-digit win total – that was in contrast to the previous season, when the Ravens fell from 8-3 to 8-9 after losing Jackson.

Baltimore Ravens 2023 NFL season predictions

A full season of a happy Lamar Jackson is exactly what Ravens fans will be wishing for this season but it’s hard to see the team having done enough to make the jump into contention to win the loaded AFC this season. Here are my Ravens-related predictions for the upcoming season.

Best bet: Under 10.5 wins (-120)

Veterans Odell Beckham Jr. and Nelson Agholor are not likely to provide the boost to the offense they once might have, although new coordinator Todd Monken promises to make the Ravens O more exciting to watch than it has been in recent seasons. The real hope on offense comes from rookie Zay Flowers, but the elephant in the room has to be the fact that Jackson has played only 12 games in each of the last 2 seasons and however much money he is being paid can’t guarantee that he will have better luck with injuries this time around.

On defense, the team has lost experienced veterans Chuck Clark, Marcus Peters, Calais Campbell and Justin Houston, while Pro Bowl cornerback Marlon Humphrey is in danger of missing the start of the season with a foot injury. While the Ravens should be capable of going close to last season’s win tally, asking them to exceed it in a tough division is a stretch, so I prefer to take the under on their win total.

Baltimore Ravens season record prediction: 10-7

The Ravens have 3 physical divisional games in their first 5 matchups, and also have a tough scheduling spot as they go straight from a Week 6 trip to London with no rest before a testing home contest against the Lions. The Jaguars, 49ers and Dolphins over the December holiday period also ensures tough sledding whether or not Jackson is around for the stretch run this year. All in all, the Ravens look on course for something around the same as last season’s 10-7 finish.
