Pickswise was nice enough to give me the opportunity to write up my plays for you all. For those of you who don’t know me, they refer to me as JutPicks on Twitter. I post all my plays with brief writeups every day. Now I get to write even more with no character limit!

I pride myself on being as transparent as they come. My MLB record from last season and this season is listed in my bio. On the year, I’ve recorded 151 wins and 104 losses for a gain of +34.48 units. Without further ado, let’s dive into my favorite plays for Wednesday.

Joe Ryan (MIN) under 5.5 hits allowed (-110)

Line available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing.

We have daytime baseball today between the Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers in a division rivalry matchup. 26-year old Joe Ryan will take the mound for the Twins in his 3rd start against the Tigers. Ryan has looked magical in both of his previous starts when facing Detroit and we’re backing him today to do the same.

The Tigers possess one of the best matchups for Ryan. In the last month, the Tigers’ batting average against right-handed pitching is .214; the 3rd-worst during that span. They’re also striking out at a top-5 rate which Ryan excels at. He struck out 9 and 7 Tigers batters this season while only giving up 5 hits combined in 12.2 innings pitched.

Another important factor playing into this prop is Ryan’s pitch count. The Twins have always monitored their young gem. He’s averaging 84 pitches in his last 5 starts and that’s even with him pitching extremely well.

Ryan is under this line in 12 of 16 starts and tends to pitch better at home.

St. Louis Cardinals -.5 First 5 Innings (-115)

Line available at BetMGM Sportsbook at time of publishing.

We’re targeting another play between division rivals. The St. Louis Cardinals are hosting the Chicago Cubs in the 2nd game of a 3 game series. We sweated out our Adam Wainwright prop of under 6.5 hits last night. Wainwright allowed 6 hits through 7 innings pitched.

The St. Louis Cardinals will have their ace on the mound in Miles Mikolas. Mikolas has been dominant at home. He has an ERA of 2.3 and hasn’t allowed more than 2 runs more at home since late May. On the other side of the diamond, the Chicago Cubs will start lefty Justin Steele. Steele has been impressive this season but this is as tough as a matchup as it gets. The Cardinals rank in the top 5 in all major hitting categories versus left-handed pitching this season. The Cardinals were able to hit Steele hard in their matchup this season. They mustered 7 hits and 3 walks but we’re only able to score 1 run.

I expect Steele to struggle with his 4.71 road ERA and Mikolas to shine at home like he has all season long.
