Pickswise was nice enough to give me the opportunity to write up my plays for you all. For those of you who don’t know me, they refer to me as JutPicks on Twitter. I post all my plays with brief write-ups every day. Now I get to write even more with no character limit!

I pride myself on being as transparent as they come. My MLB record from last season and this season is listed in my bio. On the year, I’ve recorded 213 wins and 153 losses for a gain of +37.38 units. Without further ado, let’s dive into my favorite play for Thursday.

Shohei Ohtani (LAA) under 1.5 earned runs (-120)

These 1.5 earned runs props are not for the weak. They could be crushed in a matter of 2 batters. But with a pitcher like Ohtani, you know you’re going to get a show. Tonight he will face off against the Oakland Athletics, who are on the verge of losing their 100th game of the season.

Ohtani has been magical this season. If it wasn’t for Aaron Judge and the triple-crown title that he has a chance of claiming, Ohtani would be walking away with the AL MVP. Ohtani has been magnificent at home in 2022. He is sporting a 2.00 home ERA and has held his opponents under 2 runs in 8 of 13 starts. On the season he is under this line in 15 of 26 total starts, including a 6-inning shutout against the Athletics at the beginning of August.

The Athletics are hitting .231 against right-handers in September and have a bottom 10 on-base percentage during that span. They most likely will start a lineup that features many young prospects like they did last night against fellow right-hander starter Michael Lorenzen, who worked 5.0 innings without yielding an earned run. I expect another masterful performance by Ohtani to end his 2022 campaign with a bang.
