Best MLB player prop for Friday's slate: Quantrill to tame Tigers

Cleveland Indians pitcher Cal Quantrill MLB player prop

I wanted to have more than one MLB player prop today, but it’s just not in the cards. Friday nights are tailor-made for gambling on sports, so the more the better; but the issue is the books are right on almost everyone in terms of price. I did consider a few guys and I will name them so you can kick the tires and see what you can find. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure, so I guess that applies here.

Bailey Ober at 3.5 -120 against the Astros looked promising, but it’s the Astros. No thanks. Kyle Muller is probably going to whiff a few Nats tonight, but do we really want to pay -125 for 5.5? Seems expensive. Finally, Marcus Stroman at 4.5 +105 isn’t horrible since Kyle Gibson will likely give him 2 freebies…but it’s still Stroman. Good luck trying to nail him down. In the end, only one MLB player prop came with a number and price I could be proud of. Cal Quantrill is literally the last man standing.

On top of this article, you should definitely check out our experts’ picks on all of the MLB action today. It’s just a smart thing to do. Also, bets can be added to the card, so why not follow me on Twitter in case we get some last-second action?

Cal Quantrill over 4.5 strikeouts (+132)

Line available at FanDuel at time of publishing.

We have options with Quantrill tonight and I went with FanDuel. At 4.5 +132, this kid is priced to move. That’s just a rock solid deal in my opinion. Over at DraftKings he’s 4.5 +110 which isn’t bad. At BetMGM he’s priced at 3.5 -165, which is way too juicy for a MLB player prop but to each their own.

Quantrill is not a “strikeout guy,” but at 4.5 +132 he doesn’t need to be. Five Ks is just not a lot. Quantrill is coming into this one in great form (for him) as he has hit this number in 3 of his last 4 starts. He’s gone at least 5.0 innings in each of those starts so there is that too. We’re not asking him to do anything he hasn’t done before here which is very nice of us.

The opponent plays a big role in the MLB player prop game and we have a great target in the Detroit Tigers. Over the last week, only 3 teams have struck out more than they have and all of those teams played 1 more game. In their last 195 at bats they have whiffed 60 times which is horrible. In their last series with Boston they let Garrett Richards fan 5 of them, which he had only done 1 other time since June 6.

This is my favorite MLB player prop of the day/night.
