Pickswise was nice enough to give me the opportunity to write up my plays for you all. For those of you who don’t know me, they refer to me as JutPicks on Twitter. I post all my plays with brief write-ups every day. Now I get to write even more with no character limit!

I pride myself on being as transparent as they come. My MLB record from last season and this season is listed in my bio. In the regular season, I recorded 251 wins and 160 losses for a gain of +38.35 units. Without further ado, let’s dive into my favorite play for day 5 of the MLB Divisional Series.

Gerrit Cole (NYY) over 1.5 walks (-120)

Gerrit Cole and his $324 million contract will take the mound for the New York Yankees in an elimination game against the Cleveland Guardians. The Guardians took Game 3 in wild fashion. They scored 3 runs in the 9th inning with Oscar Gonzalez once again walking it off.

Cole will no doubt have an extended leash tonight, which bodes well for us. He is prone to have command issues, especially with how deep he goes into games. Cole has struggled on the road this season in all aspects. He has issued at least 2 walks in 11 of 16 games and has an ERA of 3.81. The Guardians’ lineup doesn’t present the scariest matchup but they have multiple hitters that don’t strikeout often. Against right-handed pitching this season, the Guardians struck out at the lowest rate and had a top-10 ground-ball out percentage.

Cole will probably find himself in deep counts all game long with how strikeout heavy he is. He struck out 8 Guardians batters in Game 1 but only walked 1 through 6.1 innings pitched. I’ll take my chances on the jitters getting to Cole and walking at least 2 batters tonight.
