I'm an NFL handicapper here at Pickswise who was raised in a household full of sports fanatics. Since I unfortunately never had LeBron James' jumping ability I wasn't able to make it to the NBA, and chose writing about sports as the next best thing. An avid sports bettor myself, I'm excited to get to write about the industry as it gets set to take off across the country. Buckle up. It’s that special time of year when most of the major sports are in action. It’s a lot, and we’re grateful for it. There are plenty of crucial contests coming up, which always attract some big public sides. Let’s take a look at where the public money is going as bettors once again try to beat the ‘books, with the Heat leading the way on Wednesday.

NBA: Heat +2 @ Hawks

Now here’s something we don’t see everyday: a public underdog! It’s not a massive spread by any means, but bettors are flocking to grab a couple of points with Miami on Wednesday; 72 percent of the bets and 82 percent of the public money are coming in on the Heat +2 for their matchup against the Hawks, per DraftKings’ internal numbers shared with us.

Everyone just saw Miami crush the Suns by 23 in their most recent game, so that could have something to do with this. It also could just be a fade of the Hawks, who are 6-13 in their last 19. Whatever the case, we agree with the public on this one, our expert is taking the Heat.

NBA: Lakers -2.5 @ Kings

The public just can’t quit the Lakers. Coming into the season, we all assumed that the Lakers would once again be a heavy public team given all their star power. But Los Angeles has really struggled for much of the season, and at times bettors have even been lining up to fade this team — not when it plays Sacramento, though.

For the Lakers’ matchup against the Kings on Wednesday night, 76 percent of the bets and 95 percent of the public money are laying the points with the Lakers. The gap in those two percentages indicates the large volume bets have been on the Lakers, as well.

In addition to free picks on the side and total for every game, we also have put together a mega parlay for Wednesday’s NBA action with a +1357 payout.

NHL: Canadiens @ Bruins over 6

There’s nothing the public loves more than a good over. And that’s more apparent than ever with Wednesday’s NHL slate, as the public is leaning toward the over for all three games. Most heavily here in Boston, as 80 percent of the tickets and 93 percent of the handle are on the over 6 for this showdown between the Canadiens and Bruins.

Boston has scored at least five goals in four of its past five games and bettors are going to keep riding that momentum until they can’t any more. Our experts have hit four NHL best bets in a row, and we have another one lined up for this one. Check out our full game preview for Canadiens vs Bruins to find out what it is.

NCAAB: #12 LSU @ Florida over 137

See what I mean about the public and their overs? One of the best college basketball games on the docket for Wednesday is this showdown between #12 LSU and Florida, and the public is hoping for lots of excitement. A total of 91 percent of the bets and 91 percent of the public money are on the over 137.

Florida has played in a few high-scoring games recently against SEC competition, which could help explain these splits. We also have a three-star best bet for this game, but it’s not on the total. Be sure to read our full game preview to see whether we’re on the Tigers or Gators.
