MLB Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Diego Padres same game parlay (+441 odds) 6/22: Mike Clevinger leads the way

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Mike Clevinger (52) throws a pitch against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

The 2022 MLB season continues on Wednesday, and we have another exciting slate of games. One of the matchups features the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres starting at 4:10 pm ET. The Padres will be looking for a three-game sweep of Arizona.

What better way to celebrate this matchup than by betting a same game parlay? We have come up with a 3-leg parlay, which would pay out at over 4/1 odds with FanDuel Sportsbook. Let’s take a look at each of the legs.

San Diego Padres -1.5 (+126)

Mike Clevinger over 4.5 strikeouts (-160)

No run in the 1st inning (-122)

Parlay odds: +441

San Diego Padres -1.5 (+126)

After an embarrassing three-game sweep to the Colorado Rockies, the Padres look to complete the sweep against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday afternoon. They won the series opener 4-1, but last night’s game went to extra innings before the Padres secured the 3-2 win. San Diego will have Mike Clevinger on the mound to make his fifth start of the season as he continues to work back from injury and so far, he’s been a good luck charm for the Padres. They are 4-0 with a +1.75 average winning margin when Clevinger takes the hill. The Diamondbacks continue to struggle this season as they’ve lost 5 of their last 8 games and face an uphill battle today against Clevinger and the Padres offense. I expect a statement series finale win by the Padres on Wednesday, so back San Diego to win by 2 or more runs.

Mike Clevinger over 4.5 strikeouts (-160)

This line is surprising to see because Clevinger has not made a complete start this season and he’s still surpassed this mark in 3 of his 4 starts. Two starts ago Clevinger faced the Phillies and threw 5 scoreless innings and allowed just 1 hit while punching out 5 batters. In his most recent start, the right-hander threw just 3 innings and did not allow a run while surrendering only 1 hit and recording 5 strikeouts. The veteran has a 27.2% strikeout rate this season and has been getting a lot of whiffs on his off-speed pitches, and that trend shouldn’t stop against an Arizona offense that ranks 24th in slugging and OPS in the last 15 days. I expect Clevinger to pitch at least 5 innings, so expecting him to punch out one batter an inning is not a hard ask for the right-hander.

No run in the 1st inning (-122)

Six outs to glory, that’s all this leg of the parlay needs. In the first inning this season, the Diamondbacks and Padres rank 26th and 30th in batting average and have the exact same OPS which ranks 26th among the 30 teams. The two offenses rank 24th and 25th in 1st inning runs per game and have been two of the lowest scoring teams in the first frame all season. Clevinger has been excellent in the first inning this season as he’s allowed only 3 hits to 17 batters and one of those hits happened to be a home run, but that’s the only run he’s surrendered in the first inning this season. The majority of runs in this game should come towards the end of the starting pitchers’ outings and against the bullpens. All we need is 6 outs, so back the two pitchers and defenses to pull their weight.
