MLB Monday parlay at mega +814 odds, today 4/10: Houston has a problem on its hands with Pittsburgh 

We’re off and running in the 2023 Major League Baseball season. The second full week of action begins on Monday with a 14-game slate. It all gets started with an afternoon special (2:10 pm ET) between the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins before wrapping up with a National League West divisional rivalry showdown between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants at 9:45 pm ET.

For this parlay we are going with 2 underdogs on the money line and 1 favorite on the money line. Let’s break down each of the 3 legs.

Cleveland Guardians ML over New York Yankees (-125)

The Yankees still have some injuries to their pitching rotation, so they are starting Domingo Germán in this game. He has started 1 game this season, in which he pitched 4.2 innings with 4 earned runs off 4 hits and 8 strikeouts. A solid outing for a solid pitcher. The Guardians are starting 2020 Cy Young Winner Shane Bieber. He is their ace and has been pitching like one in 2 starts this year. He has a 2.25 ERA with 10 strikeouts yet no wins or losses. The Guardians have the pitching advantage in this matchup, just as they will in a lot of matchups this year. They boast a strong rotation and bullpen, but the question for Cleveland before the season was can their offense get some run support for their pitchers? So far this year, they are averaging 4.8 runs per game and have a .250 batting average. They are 6-4 with 4 of those wins coming off a good Mariners team. 

Pittsburgh Pirates ML over Houston Astros (+155)

The Astros have not been impressive to start the season. Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker are both hitting well, but due to injuries, the lineup is not as long as normal. Framber Valdez won 17 games a season ago, but he is still looking for his first win of 2023. Pittsburgh has been the biggest positive surprise so far this season. The Pirates won on Sunday to win their series against the White Sox, and that was after sweeping the series against the Red Sox. Bryan Reynolds is always in trade rumors, but it is not affecting him. Like Alvarez, he is tied for the lead in RBIs. Roansy Contreras is one of the players the Pirates hope can lead them to future success. He was sharp last year in his debut and his first start of the season was a win at Fenway Park. Don’t be surprised if an upset takes place on Monday.

San Diego Padres ML over New York Mets (+115)

While both Yu Darvish and Max Scherzer are considered the aces of their respective teams, neither has performed well so far. Darvish made his season debut against the Diamondbacks and although he allowed only 1 run and 3 hits, the black eye of his outing was 4 walks in 5.0 innings. Several walks in an outing are as abnormal as it comes for Darvish; he had a 4.8% walk rate in 30 starts last season. As such, he can be expected to get back on track sooner rather than later. Darvish will be on 5 days of rest for Monday’s start, which is a key factor to consider because last season when he was on 4 days of rest he had a 4.32 ERA and on 5 days of rest it was 2.65. As for Scherzer, through 11.1 innings, he has allowed 8 runs on 12 hits and 4 walks to go along with only 8 strikeouts. San Diego has great value at plus money.
