Red Sox vs Yankees is always a matchup that will intrigue fans considering their historic rivalry. Even a few weeks ago, this weekend looked like it would have more juice than it maybe currently does given neither of these teams are in a playoff spot. The Red Sox are much more in the race at 3 games back of the wild card than the Yankees are at 7 games back . But these teams are running out of time to make a run if there is one in the tank. While they are still mathematically alive, intensity should be high and this should be a great game.

Boston Red Sox ML over New York Yankees (+135)

The Red Sox and Yankees have been trending in opposite directions lately. The Sox are 6-3 in their last 9 games, including an 8-3 win over the Yankees in the series opener on Friday. New York has lost 6 consecutive games and is 6-14 in the last 20 games. During their current 6-game losing streak, the Yankees have been outscored a combined 37-14. It is ugly in the Bronx right now.

Head to head, Boston has had New York’s number this season to the tune of a 6-1 record. The Red Sox have taken the last 5 games against the Yankees by a combined score of 36-13. The Yankees are the favorite in this game because Gerrit Cole is on the mound. That is fair and makes at least a little bit of sense. But the Red Sox have been much better lately and have been the better team head to head this season that their plus-money outright against a sliding team is great value.

Under 8.5 (-125)

The under has hit in 7 of Boston’s last 9 games and in 5 out of the 7 head-to-head matchups this season. The total has also hit in 4 of the last 5 played against each other in Yankee Stadium. High totals have been harder to come by recently when these teams meet and Saturday’s pitching matchup and current form of these teams looks to bring more of the same.

Kutter Crawford will start for the Red Sox and Gerrit Cole will start for the Yankees. Not much needs to be said about Cole. He is the consensus favorite to win the AL Cy Young award and for good reason. He is all but a formality to go 6+ innings with minimal damage which would help to keep the total low. Crawford has been just okay, but he has a good matchup against a Yankees offense that just does not have much jam. This matchup looks good for another under.

Triston Casas to collect a hit (-155)

Triston Casas has cooled off a little bit from a fantastic July but he still remains a threat in the Red Sox lineup. That is not to say he has had a bad August. Just over halfway through the month, Casas is 13-53 for a .245 average along with 4 home runs and 8 RBIs with an .824 OPS. In Boston’s last 12 games, Casas has been steady as he has 11 hits during that span.

The Red Sox have a good top half of the lineup including Triston Casas. He is likely to bat in the 5-spot in between Masataka Yoshida and Trevor Story. Those guys present pitchers with a difficult and versatile 4-5-6 in the lineup. With a little bit of protection and seeing the ball well himself, Casas is in a good spot to succeed. If he can continue his recent pace of collecting around a hit per game, it should be a nice addition to this same game parlay.
