The Padres have underachieved in a big way compared to preseason expectations. They can put it all behind them if they can make a run here to compete for a playoff spot which has very much been questionable. This has been a very one-sided series thus far in favor of San Diego as the Padres look to sweep the Tigers and inch closer to a wildcard position while Detroit tries to play spoiler.

San Diego Padres -1.5 (-130) over Detroit Tigers

Although the Padres have underachieved this season as a whole, they are the better team in this matchup. On paper, San Diego’s roster is very good and they really need the results to begin reflecting that if they are going to make the playoffs. The Padres enter Sunday 5.5 games out of the wild card which with more than 2 months left to play is a very feasible gap to close. They will come out with some jam to win this game and stay hot.

The Padres have won 4 out of their last 5 games including the first two games of this series against the Tigers. San Diego narrowly beat Detroit on Friday by a score of 5-4, but then laid the hammer down on Saturday with a 14-3 win. Detroit now has 1 win in their last 5 home games and they have yet another uphill battle on Sunday.

Over 8.5 (-105)

Overs trends have been prominent in the Tigers’ season and in the Padres’ last couple weeks. Detroit’s over under record on the season is 51-43-4 including 27-18-2 at home. In Padres games, the over has hit in 6 out of the last 9, as well as in 9 out of their last 13 games. Both games in this series have gone over a total of 8.5 runs. If both teams can hold to their recent averages, the over will continue to have a good look.

Both the Padres and Tigers have had lopsided numbers for and against in the last couple of weeks. The Padres have either scored or allowed 6+ runs in 7 out of their last 10 games. The past 5 Tigers games have seen 55 runs scored for an average game total of 11 runs. The kind of volatility these teams are playing with right now is a good recipe for a high total.

Juan Soto 1+ RBIs (+125)

Juan Soto has left his mark on this series in a big way in just 2 games. Soto had 2 home runs and 3 RBI’s on Friday, then followed up that performance with 2 hits and 3 more RBI’s on Saturday. This is a guy that absolutely has to produce if this team is going to go anywhere this season. The Padres are heating up, and if Soto is in tandem, then this San Diego team has a good chance to make a run in these last couple months of this season.

In his last 7 games, Juan Soto has 3 home runs and 11 RBI’s with a .333 average and 1.302 OPS. That is a very good week and is the kind of hot hand to take against a bad team. The plus money for Soto to continue producing is good value both as its own bet and as part of this parlay.
