On the penultimate weekend of the regular season, there are still two divisions to be settled as well as the wild cards. Several teams control their own playoff destiny while others need a little bit of luck. Regardless, this is a great time of year whether or not your team is in the playoff race. Baseball fans are in for a treat with every slate until there is a World Series champion crowned.

Toronto Blue Jays ML (+124)

The Blue Jays are one of four teams in an all-out battle for a wild-card spot. They have been playing playoff baseball for the better part of a month now and that urgency should very be there today. The Rays are a great team, but the Blue Jays are in good form themselves and have won 6 of their last 7 games and 6 of their last 8 on the road. The Blue Jays need a win to keep pace on the playoff race and their play should reflect that.

Toronto has done a great job of limiting damage in the past week. Prior to their loss on Thursday, the Blue Jays had won 5 straight with just 7 runs allowed during that span, and they gave up just 2 runs on Friday. Hyun-Jin Ryu will start for Toronto today and has a good chance to keep the score down. In 9 starts since returning from Tommy John surgery, Ryu has a 2.62 ERA. A reliable starting pitcher and hot bullpen give Toronto good plus-money value in this one.

Boston Red Sox -1.5 (+120)

The Red Sox have been far from impressive and this pick is more an indictment of how bad the White Sox have been. It has been uglier for the White Sox and for a longer stretch of time. Boston’s silver lining is that they play in a tough division and have been getting beaten by quality teams. But Chicago has been losing to both good and bad teams for months. The White Sox’ opponents have value no matter who it is.

Whether it is a lack of motivation, the pitch clock, mechanical or something else, White Sox starter Dylan Cease has been lost this year just a season removed from being the AL Cy Young runner-up. He has been getting shelled for the better part of the second half of the season and faces a better lineup than his Saturday counterpart Nick Pivetta. This one sets up well for Boston.

Baltimore Orioles -1.5 (+120)

The Orioles have their playoff ticket punched, but they still have plenty to play for. The Rays just won’t go away and can still realistically take the AL East and AL crown away from the O’s. Baltimore will keep their foot firmly on the gas through the end of the regular season to make sure that does not happen. They also want to make sure they are in peak form entering the playoffs. The Orioles are already the better team in this game and their incentive to win only furthers their advantage.

Again the spread, the Orioles are a stellar 91-62 on this season and the majority of their best work has been on the road. Baltimore’s road record against the spread is 55-23. That is wildly impressive, especially in the loaded AL East. It is also far better than Cleveland’s 37-39 home record against the spread. Look for the Orioles to come out with some jam and run up the score.
