I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. After hitting our Game 5 YRFI play at plus-money, we have now cashed each of the last 3 World Series games. The series now heads back to Houston after Friday was an off day. We have already seen 2 close 1-run games, as well as each team taking a turn blowing the other out. Therefore, it can be frustrating and nerve-racking sweating out a 3-hour long game. Instead, let’s focus on just the 1st inning. I have broken down tonight’s matchup to determine if a run will be scored in the 1st inning or not, so that you can profit in about 15 minutes.

Along with this early play, be sure to check out our MLB analysis for all of the upcoming World Series action.

Let’s take a closer look at my favorite YRFI/NRFI bet for Game 5 of the World Series.

Houston Astros vs Philadelphia Phillies: NRFI (-140)

Each of the last 3 games have gone back-and-forth in terms of a run being scored in the 1st inning or not. We have cashed each of those games, so there’s no sense in not leaning into the zig-zag theory. Of course that’s not the only reason for this play. Phillies had ace Zack Wheeler available for Thursday’s Game 5 but gave the start to Noah Syndergaard instead. That proved to not work out (even though Syndergaard was decent), but it has also provided Wheeler with a full 6 days of rest. That should allow him to look much more like he did in his first 4 postseason starts.

He didn’t allow a single run and any of those 1st innings, and those were all against strong lineups of the St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres twice. As for the Astros, they are back to lefty Framber Valdez in the rotation. He was on the mound opposite Wheeler in their Game 2 win and was lights out. Valdez allowed just 1 run on 4 hits in 6.1 innings, and there was even speculation of him using sticky stuff. Nothing even came to light in terms of that, but the fact remains he looked great. With that in mind and the extra day of rest, I expect a strong start by both pitchers.
