Two of the biggest soccer nations on the planet face off on Friday as the Netherlands and Argentina aim to secure a place in the World Cup semifinals. The Netherlands reached the last eight with a 3-1 win over the USMNT while Argentina had too much for Australia in its round-of-16 assignment.

It looks likely to be a keenly contested matchup at Lusail Stadium, and we’ve come up with a Same Game Parlay for the second quarterfinal which could pay out at +1569 odds at FanDuel Sportsbook at the time of publishing.

I cashed a +1290 odds Same Game Parlay on the Brazil vs South Korea game, so let’s go for another big win!

Netherlands to qualify (+130)

Memphis Depay anytime goalscorer (+280)

Lionel Messi 2+ shots on target (+125)

Same Game Parlay odds: +1569

Let’s check out the reasoning behind each of our selections:

Netherlands to qualify (+130)

Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal took his country to the semifinals of the World Cup in 2014 and will not need reminding that Argentina halted his progress when they beat the Oranje in a penalty shootout after a goalless game.  There seems a good chance he will enjoy better fortune this time. The Netherlands have grown into the tournament after an unsure start and should take heart from the impressive win over the USA.

Van Gaal is a highly experienced coach and has a well-drilled team, something that Argentina may not be able to boast despite the fact its lineup contains soccer superstar Lionel Messi. It looks set to be a tight game and it could take either extra-time or PKs to decide the winner, so side with the Dutch to book a place in the last four by any means possible.

Memphis Depay anytime goalscorer (+280)

PSV striker Cody Gakpo has grabbed the headlines after scoring 3 goals in the tournament, but let’s not forget about Barcelona’s Memphis Depay, who scored the Netherlands’ first goal against the USA. He missed the opening victory over Senegal but is now set to lead the Dutch charge after coming on as a sub against Ecuador and playing two-thirds of the game against Qatar before he struck in the last 16.

Even though his playing time has been limited, Depay has still had 10 attempts on goal, 5 of which have been on target, so he has not been scared to try his luck and is worth backing to score in regulation time.

Lionel Messi 2+ shots on target (+125)

Argentina’s hopes of winning a third World Cup are likely to rest on Lionel Messi’s shoulders and the Paris Saint-Germain star is set to be at the centre of everything the team creates. He has already scored 3 goals in the tournament and has fired in shots whenever he has had the opportunity.

Messi has had 17 efforts at goal during his 4 appearances at the tournament, 8 of which have been on target, including a penalty that was saved in the 2-0 win over Poland. He is bound to have a prominent role in the match, so expect him to have at least 2 shots on target in regulation time.
