I've been a capper since my love for sports met my proficiency with numbers and math. The NFL and NCAAF have always been my first loves, followed by the NHL. Although I prefer sports that involve hitting people, I still love capping MLB, soccer, tennis, and even some esports. Living in Florida has its perks like year-round sports of any kind. After back-to-back huge days on the ice, the NHL has just 3 games on the slate as we head into a jam-packed weekend. Not to worry — we still got you covered from all angles. That includes player props, as we’ve provided our best NHL prop bet picks below. I just cashed an NHL mega parlay at +993 odds last night and I’m looking to stay hot today! Even with the light 3-game slate, we’ve still found 2 great spots, and with no late-night games, let’s not waste any time diving into our best bets. Along with our best NHL player props, be sure to check out all of our NHL picks for today’s action as well.

Matthew Tkachuk (FLA) over 0.5 goals (+145)

Odds available at time of publishing. Playable to +120.

Coming off a relatively surprising run to the Stanley Cup Finals last season, the Florida Panthers are proving that it was no fluke. Led by Matthew Tkachuk, the first target of our NHL prop picks for today, they’re behind only the Boston Bruins in the Atlantic Division. Their standing will likely improve tonight facing a weak defensive team in the Detroit Red Wings. They’re struggling in nearly every defensive metric, and we considered Tkachuk’s shots on goal prop, but with it being a home game for the Panthers, that prop is a bit too inflated for our taste.

Instead, we’re going to trust 1 of his several shots to find the back of the net. The Wings are a bottom-10 team in terms of goals allowed per game and Tkachuk has been on a heater to start 2024. The winger scored at least 1 goal in each of Florida’s first 5 games of January, including a hat-trick for 7 in total. He’s also scored a goal in every other game against Detroit across his last 6 against them, Given that he didn’t score against the Wings back in November, we’ll buy into the trend and start our NHL prop bet picks for today with Tkachuk to score a goal.

Tage Thompson (BUF) over 0.5 goals (+135)

Odds available at time of publishing. Playable to +110.

We’ve got a bit of a theme for our NHL prop bet picks today as well, starting with the fact that we also considered another shots on goal prop. Yet again, the Buffalo Sabres at home has it set with an unfavorable price, so we’re targeting Tage Thompson in the same way as Tkachuk — to find the back of the net. He too has a great matchup against the struggling Chicago Blackhawks. They’re allowing the 4th-most goals per game, and with Jeff Skinner on injured reserve, there is even more dependency on Thompson to get the job done for Buffalo.

That’s why we saw him take 5 shots on goal in 2 of the past 3 games, and he’s had a pair of 2-goal games in this month alone. As if that wasn’t enough, he’s owned the Blackhawks in his career, scoring at least a goal in each of his last 4 games against them. On top of all that, Chicago was just on the ice last night at home, meaning that they’ll be traveling into Buffalo on the second leg of a back-to-back. That’s tough sledding for an already-poor goaltending team, so we’re adding to our NHL prop bet picks for today with Tage Thompson to score a goal.
