Good morning, Pickswise Nation. The NBA regular season is over and the Masters has come and gone, but there is still plenty of action on the menu. There are a whole host of MLB games on Monday and the final week of the NHL regular season is getting underway. It’s another big day in the world of sports, so let’s get right to it and make your next bet better with Wise n’ Shine!

About Last Night

NBA regular season comes to a close
The NBA playoffs are here. Yes, the regular season ended on Sunday afternoon and the play-in tournaments in both the Eastern Conference and Western Conference will begin on Tuesday. Our NBA experts went 3-0 on prop bets and 11-4 and game totals on Sunday.

Two parlay winners in the NHL
Our NHL handicappers had just a 2-game slate to work with, but they sure did nail it. They went 3-1 combined on sides and totals, cashed a +265 parlay, hit a +360 Bruins vs Flyers Same Game Parlay and went 2-0 – easily – on player prop picks. David Pastrnak went over 0.5 goals by delivering a hat-trick for Boston and Mikko Rantanen of Colorado exceeded his 1.5 points quota with 4 (2 goals and 2 assists).

Perfect on props
The Pickswise experts went a 7-0 on props, as a 2-0 effort in baseball joined 3-0 and 2-0 perfection in the NBA and NHL, respectively. Additional MLB success included a +438 parlay winner – our second MLB parlay hit in as many days.

Best Bet of the Day

MLB: Boston Red Sox vs Tampa Bay Rays Over 8 (-120)
6:40 pm ET, NESN

The Rays outscored the Athletics 31-5 in their most recent 3-game series sweep. That wasn’t a surprising result, but the dominance by the Tampa Bay offense was eye-opening. Through 9 games, Tampa Bay ranks 1st in on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS. Boston is starting Nick Pivetta for his second start of the 2023 campaign. His stat line from his season debut wasn’t too bad at first glance, but the advanced metrics tell a different story. In 5.0 innings he had a 76.9% hard-hit rate and a .647 xSLG, which indicates that the Pirates should have had better success than they did. Moreover, Pivetta was 0-4 with a 6.86 ERA against Tampa Bay in 4 starts last season. In a classic Rays move, they will utilize the opener strategy on Monday night. Jalen Beeks will open and throw an inning or 2 before Josh Fleming takes over. Beeks has made 2 appearances this season and has allowed 1 run and 3 hits in 3.0 innings, while Fleming has made 1 start thus far. Fleming endured a really poor 2022 season and looked the same in his season debut. He was rocked by the lowly Nationals for 5 runs and 10 hits in just 3.0 innings.

Stat of the Day

The Red Wings have allowed 12 goals in their last 2 games. They are also 0-4 straight up in their last 4 games against the Stars.

Quote of the Day

“I’m not upset if the standings shook out how they did today and we met Sacramento in the first round. Not because I think Sacramento is a weak team, (but) because the travel is so much easier…. The reason why I said Sac is simply just because of the travel. That’s a lot on your body. If we can bus ride an hour and 10 minutes up the way, I just think that’s much better for us. At the end of the day, I don’t really care who we play in the playoffs, I think we can win.”

— Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors on a recent episode of his podcast. That first-round matchup between Golden State and Sacramento is now official.
