About Last Night

Dramatic day of World Cup action
It was another wild day of World Cup action, as both matches went to penalty shootouts. First, Croatia knocked off Brazil in dramatic fashion after evening up the score at 1-1 in extra time. Argentina was then pegged as the live tournament favorites at most sportsbooks, but they had a difficult match of their own to win. After blowing a 2-0 lead in the waning moments of regulation, Lionel Messi and company ended up squeaking through to the semifinals via penalties.

Busy night in the Association
Friday featured a 10-game slate in the NBA, highlighted by a hotly-contested showdown in Philadelphia. The Lakers were outscored 13-2 in an overtime loss to the 76ers, despite getting 31 points from Anthony Davis. Other results included a win for the Kings over the Cavaliers, the Pelicans knocking off the Suns and the Nets defeating the Hawks at home.

Another packed NHL slate
It was an eventful Friday night on the ice and the showcase game featured a dramatic shootout win for the New York Rangers over the Colorado Avalanche. Other results included the Bruins falling to the Coyotes in Arizona, the Oilers dispatching the Wild and the Blue Jackets upsetting the Flames.

Best Bet of the Day

World Cup: Portugal ML (-140) over Morocco
7:00 pm ET

Morocco has made history by becoming the first Arab nation to reach the quarterfinals of a World Cup, having beaten Spain in a shootout in the round of 16. Awaiting the north African side in the quarterfinals is a Portugal team fresh from battering Switzerland 6-1 in its round-of-16 contest. Fernando Santos made a number of changes for that game, leaving Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo on the bench. But the head coach’s selections paid dividends as Portugal raced into a 2-0 lead after only 33 minutes and young striker Goncalo Ramos scored the first hat-trick of the World Cup. Read our full Morocco vs Portugal predictions.
