Broncos vs Texans Pickswise Expert Predictions

Point Spread Pick
HOU Texans -1.5(-110)

We have an intriguing matchup in the AFC on Sunday, as the red-hot Denver Broncos will take on the Houston Texans in a game that could go a long way into deciding things in both the AFC South and West division races, as well as the Wild Card picture in the AFC. After a brutal start to the season, Houston is suddenly in good form, with the Texans sitting at 3-4 and just 1.5 games behind in the race for the final Wild Card spot. We know that Houston’s defense is one of the better units in football, but it is the offense that has finally come around a bit following a dreadful start. CJ Stroud is coming off his best outing of the season, and there’s certainly a world in which Stroud and this offense has turned the corner and is now being a bit undervalued by the market heading into this week. After being a bottom-tier unit, Houston’s offense is up to 15th in EPA per play and have averaged 26 points per game over its last few home games. That bodes well for this week’s matchup.

As for the Broncos, this is an offense that is rolling of late, having put up 77 points over their last 2 games. However, those performances came against the likes of the Giants and Cowboys, a couple of teams that are easily among the worst defenses in football this season. I’m still not buying the Broncos offense, as Denver has been a pretty middling unit, despite facing an easy schedule of opposing defenses. That won’t be the case against a Houston secondary that could make life hell for Bo Nix, with the Texans sitting at second in pass defense DVOA and first in EPA per play. The offense is progressing along and the defense is arguably the best in football, so let’s take the Texans on the money line on Sunday.

Game Totals Pick
Over 39.5(-110)

This is the rare instance of the market being too low on an offense that is on the rise, as the Texans finally look like a competent unit on that side of the ball. CJ Stroud is coming off the best game of his campaign thus far, and he should be able to get the ball out quickly against a Broncos defense that is a blitz-heavy unit and can be had through the air. On the other side of the ball, while I do think the Denver offense is a bit overrated due to recent performances, this is still a team that should be able to score 17-20 points in a game being played indoors with no weather to speak of. The over is the only way I can look on Sunday.

Over 39.5 available at time of publishing. Playable to 40.
