Patriots vs Jets Pickswise Expert Predictions

Point Spread Pick
NE Patriots -13.5(-108)

The New England Patriots have a chance to clinch the AFC East in Week 17 of the NFL season as they visit the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon. New England will get the job done with a win and a Buffalo loss to Philadelphia. Regardless, this is another huge game for a team that is currently occupying the #2 seed in the conference. New York, on the other hand, has long since been eliminated from playoff contention at 3-12. The only thing the Jets are in contention for is a top-2 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. This is quite simply a matchup between one of the best teams in the league and one of the worst. When you can get New England at less than 2 touchdowns, it’s an opportunity that should be taken. My Patriots vs Jets pick is for the visitors to win and cover.

It’s hard to even describe just how bad New York is right now. Head coach Aaron Glenn’s squad is on a 3-game losing streak and it is 1-5 in its last 6 contests. During this stretch, every single one of its setbacks has come by at least 13 points. The Jets’ last 3 losses have been by 24, 28 and 23 points. With Justin Fields on injured reserve and Tyrod Taylor’s starting days are over (he is questionable for this weekend anyway), Brady Cook is now the quarterback. Through 3 NFL appearances, Cook has 1 touchdown pass and 6 interceptions. New England, on the other hand, is 11-1 in its last 12 games with only a 35-31 loss to Buffalo during this stretch. Count on this being a beatdown of the highest order.

Game Totals Pick
Under 43.0(-110)

Unsurprisingly, Cook does not look like an NFL quarterback. After 3 outings, his QBR is 9.7. You cannot make this stuff up, folks. Now the Missouri product has to face a New England defense that is top 10 in yards per pass attempt allowed. New York will likely try to move the ball almost exclusively on the ground, in part to keep the clock moving and shorten the game against a far superior opponent. However, the Pats rank #6 league wide against the run. In 6 of their last 10 contests the Jets have scored 14 points or fewer. This stretch includes outputs of 11, 6, 10, 10 and 6 points. That is the main reason why my Patriots vs Jets pick is Under 42.5.

New England QB Drake Maye is at an MVP level, but I expect this game to get out of hand early and allow the visitors to mostly keep the ball on the ground to churn the clock. Once the Pats turn to their running game, the Jets may be able to stop it — especially if they know what’s coming. The Jets’ 4.4 yards per carry allowed are not much worse than the league average. New England’s offense also has a laundry list of guys who are questionable for Sunday. Those question marks along with Cook playing QB for the Jets has me leaning toward the under even at a relatively short number.

New England Patriots vs New York Jets prediction: Under 43 (-110) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.
