Giants vs Commanders Pickswise Expert Predictions

New York Giants
Point Spread Pick
WAS Commanders -5.5(-120)

The first Sunday of the 2025 NFL regular season is upon us and it kicks off with a marquee NFC East matchup between the New York Giants and Washington Commanders in the nation’s capital. This is a tale of 2 division rivals that have been going in opposite directions. Washington went 12-5 last year and made it to the NFC Championship game before losing to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. New York compiled a 3-14 record. To the surprise of no one based on those respective records, the Commanders won both of the head-to-head meetings. They should be in line for another victory this weekend, so my Giants vs Commanders prediction is on the home to win and cover.

Year 1 with head coach Dan Quinn and — more importantly — with quarterback Jayden Daniels could hardly have gone better in the district. Why would there be any reason to expect any dropoff in year 2? The offense added another weapon in Deebo Samuel, while the defense can hold up its end of the bargai in part due to the experience of linebackers Von Miller and Bobby Wagner. Terry McLaurin’s extension finally got done, so that is no longer a distaction. As for the Giants, head coach Brian Daboll is firmly on the hot seat. That may be why Russell Wilson is starting instead of rookie Jaxson Dart. Daboll can’t afford to lose many games early — or really at any stage — in the season. Unfortunately for the G-Men, they will probably lose this one regardless of who is under center. Wilson, 36, does not inspire any confidence at this point in his career.

Game Totals Pick
Under 45.5(-108)

Dart lit up some opposing defenses during the preseason, but he won’t be on the field for Week 1 of the regular season. Wilson may not be entirely hopeless, but he is 36 years old and has not won a playoff game since 2019. When these 2 rivals faced each other in Washington last year, it was a 21-18 result. Another relatively low-scoring affair could be in the cards, so my Giants vs Commanders prediction is Under 45.5.

There is no denying that last season Daniels threw for 4.568 yards, rushing for 891 and accounted for 31 total touchdowns (25 passing, 6 rushing). However, he did not do much against the Giants (435 passing yards, 2 passing TDs and zero rushing TDs in 2 games). New York boasts some talented linebackers in the form of Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux, so Daniels may not have a ton of time to hang around in the pocket looking for his pass-catching weapons. Washington is tough to stop, but it can at least be contained.

New York Giants vs Washington Commanders prediction: Under 45.5 (-108) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.
