Red Sox vs Blue Jays Pickswise Expert Predictions

Money Line Pick
TOR Blue Jays Win(-125)

The Red Sox suffered their first loss since the Alex Cora firing, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Blue Jays on Tuesday. After a stretch of 6 losses in 7 games, the Sox have now won 3 of the last 4 as they look to take the series from the Blue Jays in Toronto on Wednesday afternoon. Meanwhile, the Jays have also won 3 of their last 4, as well as 6 of their last 9 after multiple 4+ game losing streaks over the first half of the month.

Brayan Bello will get the start for Boston, while Eric Lauer gets the start for Toronto. Neither pitcher has been anything to write home about, as Bello has a 9.00 ERA and 2.27 WHIP, allowing 37 hits, 22 earned runs, 8 home runs and 13 walks in his 22 innings with only 15 strikeouts to accompany those numbers. Lauer hasn’t been nearly as bad, but his 6.75 ERA and 1.54 WHIP leave a bit to be desired. He has walked 12 while surrendering 17 earned runs and 6 home runs in his 22.2 innings thus far. Moreover, Willson Contreras and Trevor Story have crushed him over the years, combining for 14 hits, 4 home runs, 13 RBI and 10 strikeouts in 48 at-bats. For what it’s worth, Bello has had similar struggles against the Jays and specifically Vlad Jr. Guerrero has 13 hits and 2 home runs in 30 at-bats against Bello with just 4 strikeouts and a .733 SLG.

Despite a 17-run outburst just a few days ago, I have a hard time trusting this Boston offense. Just to prove a point, if you take away that game, the Red Sox have scored just 16 runs in their last 6. That 1 game accounted for more than half of their runs over the last 7 days. For my money, Toronto is the more consistent offense, so in a battle of bad pitchers, I’m going to lean to the Jays.

Red Sox vs Blue Jays prediction: Toronto Blue Jays ML (-125) at the time of publishing. Playable to -130.
