Cubs vs Pirates Pickswise Expert Predictions

Money Line Pick
PIT Pirates Win(+105)

The Chicago Cubs will look to snap their brutal losing streak Monday afternoon as they head to Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates. Chicago has now dropped 8 straight games and 8 of its last 10 overall. During that stretch, the Cubs are averaging just 3.5 runs per game while hitting .202 and posting a team ERA of 5.24. Things haven’t been perfect for Pittsburgh either, but the Pirates have played better lately, winning 4 of their last 10 games. Over that span, the Pirates are averaging 4.3 runs per game, batting .254, and hold a team ERA of 4.25.

The Cubs will hand the ball over to Ben Brown, who enters with a 1-2 record and a 2.09 ERA. Brown got a spot in the starting rotation on May 8th, and since then, he’s gone 0-1 with a 2.08 ERA. For the Pirates, Carmen Mlodzinski will get the nod, entering with a 4-3 record and a 3.96 ERA. While both starters have been effective, the difference right now comes down to momentum and offensive consistency. The Cubs continue to struggle badly at the plate, and even though Brown has done an excellent job at limiting baserunners, Chicago simply hasn’t provided enough offensive support for me to trust them right now. Not to mention the Cubs are 11-13 on the road this season while the Pirates are slightly better at home, sitting at 13-13. I expect Mlodzinski to keep things rolling against a struggling Cubs team, and until they can prove otherwise they’re out of their offensive slump, give me the Pirates to win at home.

Cubs vs Pirates prediction: Pirates ML  (+105) at the time of publishing. Playable to (-110).
