The Athletics vs Los Angeles Angels Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 05/19/26

The Athletics lost heartbreakingly on Monday night, as their starting pitcher, JT Ginn, carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning before giving up a two-run walk-off home run to suffer a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels. It was a tough finish for Ginn’s no-hit bid, but the teams combining for nine hits and three runs continued the trend of these two teams having some of the streakiest offenses in baseball.

The Athletics send Jacob Lopez to the mound on Tuesday to try and build on Ginn’s stellar outing on Monday night, with hopes that the offense will show up and give him a bit more backing. Lopez owns a 5.80 ERA over nine outings this season, but his last two starts have him allowing just two earned runs in each. The lefty hasn’t been giving up too many hits in those starts either, but some poor control has him maxing out early.

The Angels counter with Reid Detmers, who has similarly been pitching well lately, with two earned runs allowed in each of his past two starts. Considering the Athletics are around the middle-of-the-pack in the majors in hitting off lefties, Detmers sets up well to have another good outing in this one.

The lack of offensive firepower on Monday sets up both teams to have some rested bullpens and plenty of pitching confidence heading into the second game of the series. The total of nine is still too high for this matchup.
