Knicks vs Cavaliers Pickswise Expert Predictions

Point Spread Pick
NY Knicks -2.0(-110)

Just over a month ago, the Knicks were trailing the Hawks in their first round series after losing back-to-back games by just 1 point each. Things looked to be pretty bleak in the New York locker room and there were rumblings of where the team would go from here. What followed has simply been one of the best extended runs of basketball in NBA postseason history, as the Knicks have rattled off 10 consecutive wins — with 9 of those victories coming by double digits. This improbable run continued into the Eastern Conference Finals, with New York rallying from a 22-point deficit in the fourth quarter to steal Game 1 in overtime. From there, Mike Brown’s group has taken total control of the series, and the Knicks are operating in a completely different gear from Cleveland at the moment. New York essentially controlled Game 3 on the road from start to finish, and it’s hard to imagine that Cleveland gets off the mat after dropping the first 3 games of this series. With that in mind, I’ll side with the market adjustment on the Knicks and take New York to complete the sweep and advance to its first NBA Finals since 1999.

Regardless of what the Cavaliers have thrown at the Knicks in this series, Brown and the New York coaching staff have been able to adapt on the fly. In Games 1 and 3, Brown swapped out Josh Hart for Landry Shamet and the Knicks went with 5 shooters on the court in the 4th quarter — which led to plenty of space for Jalen Brunson to consistently get to his spot and find easy success against the Cleveland defense. We also saw Mikal Bridges’ cutting and constant off-ball movement lead to easy buckets, while Karl-Anthony Towns continues to shine as the hub of New York’s offense. Not only is Cleveland’s defense proving to be a real issue in this series, but the Cavaliers offense has struggled mightily against a Knicks team that is defending at a really high level in the halfcourt, particularly in the second halves of Games 2 and 3. Donovan Mitchell is having a decent series, but his impact has certainly not been felt like it needs to be, and the same can be said for Evan Mobley — who has either been a bit too assertive, or not assertive enough through the first 3 games. Ultimately, it’s hard to see Cleveland being all that motivated to put forth its best effort in Game 4, which is what the Cavaliers will need if they’re hoping to avoid the sweep at home. Lay the points with New York.
