Jake Irvin is going to be a happy man this offseason when he gets paid by a contender. Irvin, a 27-year-old RHP, will face off against the New York Mets on Monday night, who are fighting for a spot to play baseball into October. But halfway through September, the Mets are hitting at a bottom-5 rate against RHP. They were getting no-hit by Aaron Nola on Friday night through 4 innings until they erupted him for 6 hits. The Mets are projected to have at least 5 right-handed hitters in the lineup, which bodes well for Irvin. He is coming off one of the best starts of his career last time out as he allowed just 2 hits, 1 walk and had 5 strikeouts through 6 innings against the Braves. Look for him to carry that momentum on the road, where his metrics are much better.

Paul Skenes did me and any other truthers wrong last week. He allowed 6 hits through 6 innings to a Miami offense that was and still is crushing RHP since the second half of the season. But here we are, backing Skenes again against a St. Louis Cardinals offense that he dominated in late July. He tossed 8 innings of 4-hit ball and still received the loss. The rumors of Skenes getting put on a pitch count late in the season have yet to be proven true. He’s thrown 100 and 98 pitches in his last 2 starts, even with the Pirates 10 games out of a playoff spot. His Outs line is at 17.5 with vig on the over, so expect another deep outing from Skenes. Nonetheless, I’ll gladly grab this line at +115 with Bet365.
