The Giants and Cowboys have both had eventful starts to their seasons. New York is out to a 2-0 start under new head coach Brian Daboll and looks like a rejuvenated team. In contrast, the Cowboys are without quarterback Dak Prescott and their offense is in flux as a result. However, Dallas was able to pick up a win against the Bengals last week to improve to 1-1 on the season. Now these teams are set for an NFC East showdown on Monday Night Football.

Our NFL expert has picks, predictions and best bets for Cowboys vs Giants, so let’s break it all down.

NFL Week 3 Dallas Cowboys vs New York Giants prediction

This is a game that most experts are touting to be a low-scoring affair. And while the data may support that prediction, my game script suggests that each of these offenses could be in for a breakout night. Michael Gallup is returning for the Cowboys at receiver, which means Dallas should be able to stretch the field more. Furthermore, the Cowboys’ aggressive style of defense could lead to explosive-play opportunities for the Giants. Let’s take a look at the odds for this NFC East matchup, before getting into our prediction.

Dallas Cowboys vs New York Giants expert picks

We’ve got 3 standout NFL picks for this week’s clash between the Cowboys and Giants.

Cowboys vs Giants money line pick: Giants ML (-115)

Many people were bullish on the Giants in the offseason, and for good reason. The Giants were miserable last year and haven’t made the playoffs since 2016, but this season had a promising outlook for a few reasons. New York was due for some positive injury regression, and got a major upgrade at head coach with the arrival of Brian Daboll. We have already seen those factors have an impact early this season and it’s hard to bet against them right now. While the Giants haven’t faced a murderers’ row of opponents to this point, they have beaten the teams in front of them while showing impressive resolve in doing so.

This could prove to be a difficult game for the Giants because of how excellent the Cowboys have been defensively. While Dallas’ offense is limited with Cooper Rush at quarterback, this team still has one of the best pass rushes in football. Led by star edge rusher Micah Parsons, the Cowboys sacked Joe Burrow 6 times a week ago. New York will need to be buttoned up in order to move the ball downfield, but they have more than enough weapons on the outside to do so. If another low-scoring game breaks out, I have confidence that new defensive coordinator Wink Martindale will be able to dial up enough exotic pressures to limit the effectiveness of Rush. It should be a one-score game, but this number is too good to pass up for New York.

Cowboys vs Giants Over/Under totals pick: Over 39 (-110)

There are some injury concerns on both defenses as well as a returning player on offense that I think squeezes out some value to the over. The Giants are potentially missing their best defender in DT Leonard Williams, who has missed most of practice this week. The Cowboys are getting back Gallup, who will stretch the field for Dallas and give Rush another weapon other than CeeDee Lamb. Rush will be going up against a Wink Martindale defense that loves to blitz and currently does so at the 3rd-highest rate in the NFL. Rush has proved he can stand in the pocket against the rush and was 9/10 for 90 yards and 1 TD against the Bengals’ blitz last week. There could be opportunities for big plays if he’s able to beat the blitz.

The Giants are not likely to light up a scoreboard, but they may catch a break with Parsons currently dealing with an illness. I am sure he will play, but that could potentially limit him a bit. The Giants should continue to feature RB Saquon Barkley and nobody is more dangerous than Barkley when he gets the ball in his hands. He has 7 rushes of 10+ yards including 2 of more than 30 yards. Trevon Diggs will certainly be looking to create big plays on defense, and it’s definitely possible that we see Daniel Jones make some mistakes leading to turnovers. Sometimes you will see a low-total game end up going over because of defensive turnovers as well as a bunch of 3-and-outs which lead to short fields and ultimately more scoring. Since 2015, totals of 39 or less in division games are 20-13-1 (61%) to the over.
