The CONCACAF Gold Cup has reached the quarterfinal stage and the big three teams of the United States, Mexico and Canada have all advanced to the last eight as expected. None of them had a perfect group stage though, to the extent that Canada and the USMNT have to face each other in a last-8 matchup on Sunday. Mexico has an easier-looking test in Saturday’s second quarterfinal against Costa Rica on Saturday night.

The game kicks off at 9:30 pm ET on FS1 and our expert has picks, predictions and a best bet, as well as the latest odds, for this matchup. You can also check out the rest of our soccer picks for the Gold Cup and this weekend’s MLS action.

Mexico vs Costa Rica expert picks for Saturday’s CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal

Mexico vs Costa Rica best bet: Mexico to win to nil (+120, BetMGM)

CONCACAF Gold Cup favorite Mexico qualified for the quarterfinals by winning Group B and should advance a step further with a routine success over Costa Rica in Arlington on Saturday night. A much-changed Mexico team lost 1-0 to Qatar in the final group match but Jaime Lozano’s team had shown themselves in a much better light in the earlier 2 group games, winning 4-0 against Honduras and 3-1 over Haiti.

El Tri have come through their last 8 Gold Cup quarterfinals and should fancy their chances against Costa Rica, who seemed to be heading for a group-stage exit until Tuesday’s thrilling 6-4 triumph over Martinique. Los Ticos were unconvincing in their other games, losing 2-1 to Panama and drawing 0-0 with Ecuador, and may succumb to Mexico without getting on the scoresheet.
