Miami Dolphins vs Chicago Bears predictions, odds, spreads & betting lines: Dolphins can victimize depleted Bears defense

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (1) celebrates after defeating the Baltimore Ravens at Hard Rock Stadium

It has already been a roller-coaster ride for the Miami Dolphins this season and they will try to remain on an upward trajectory when they visit the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Miami kicked off the 2022 campaign with a 3-0 record, lost 3 straight and has now won 3 in a row. Chicago comes in at 3-5 and is back at home following a pair of road games that went in wildly different directions. The Bears hammered the Patriots 33-14 but then lost to the Cowboys 49-29.

Here are our predictions and best bets for this Dolphins-Bears showdown.

Miami Dolphins vs Chicago Bears expert picks

We have 2 NFL picks for this week’s clash between Miami and Chicago. Let’s take a look.

Against the spread pick: Dolphins -4 (-110) over Bears

The Dolphins would be the #6 seed in the AFC playoffs if the regular season ended now, which is probably why they are going all in this season. A trade-deadline deal landed pass rusher Bradley Chubb in Miami, a big boost to what has been a questionable defense. The Dolphins also landed Jeff Wilson from the 49ers to make up for the loss of Chase Edmonds, whom they shipped off to Denver in the Chubb deal. Two games under .500, the Bears treated the deadline in much different fashion – although they did land Chase Claypool from Pittsburgh. The traded away both Robert Quinn and Roquan Smith, which opens all sorts of defensive holes. A brief eruption against New England notwithstanding, Chicago is not a team built to rely on the offense to make up for any defensive deficiencies. Its passing offense is dead last in the NFL and it will probably take Claypool a while to make any kind of noticeable impact. Look for Miami to win and cover this weekend.

Over/Under totals pick: Over 45.5 (-110)

These 2 teams have faced each other just once in the last 8 years, and in that game it was Mitch Trubisky versus Brock Osweiler. A matchup between Justin Fields and Tua Tagovailo is more intriguing. That’s not to say that this will be an explosion of points, but the offenses are good enough to take this over a relatively modest total. Fields has shown marked improvement over the last 3 weeks and Chicago has averaged 31 points per game over the last 2. On the other side of the ball, the Bears are second-to-last in rushing defense and have surrendered 14 touchdowns on the ground. Wilson and Raheem Mostert should have no problem exposing Chicago’s issues, especially following the departures of Quinn and Smith. Miami may have the advantage overall, but both teams can be expected to put a fair amount of points on the board.
