The week in Major League Baseball wraps up with a more than full 16-game schedule on Sunday (the Mets and Cardinals are playing a double-header). I’m on an absolute heater to start the season, with a 22-11-1 record so far in this best bets piece while going 3-for-5 on Same Game Parlays at +481, +632 and +439 odds. Pickswise’s MLB handicapping team on the whole is 33-15-2 on their best bets. Let’s keep it going as we get into my MLB best bets of the day!
Also don’t forget to check out our MLB picks for Sunday’s slate.
MLB best bet: Boston Red Sox F5 -0.5 over Minnesota Twins (-152)
Odds available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing
The Red Sox have won 5 of Garrett Crochet’s 7 starts this season, including 3 of his last 4. Crochet is sporting a 2.05 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 50 strikeouts through 44.0 innings. He will be opposed by Chris Paddack, for whom the 2025 campaign has been a much different story. Paddack is 0-3 with a 5.60 ERA; the Twins are 0-6 in his 6 starts.
At -192 odds, the money line doesn’t offer a lot of value. Boston on the -1.5 run line is also intriguing, although I am less inclined to make that bet with the home team guaranteed only 8 innings’ worth of at-bats. The first 5 innings rune line of -0.5 seems like the best play, plus it eliminates a mediocre Red Sox bullpen from the equation.
MLB best bet: San Francisco Giants -1.5 over Colorado Rockies (-165)
Odds available at FanDuel Sportsbook at time of publishing
The Rockies are one team I have no reservations about giving 1.5 runs to even when they get 9 at-bats and the other side is guaranteed only 8. San Francisco is playing at home and has every reason to lead this game by multiple runs going into the ninth inning. After all, Colorado (6-27) is the worst team in Major League Baseball and it’s really not even close. The Rockies have a negative-83 run differential; no other club is worse than negative-53.
Sunday’s pitching matchup certainly doesn’t help matters for the visiting side. German Marquez is taking the mound and he is a laughable 0-5 with a 9.82 ERA and 2.06 WHIP. The Rockies have lost all 6 of his starts and only 1 of those setbacks has come by fewer than 3 runs. There is no reason to think anything will change with Logan Webb going for San Francisco. Webb is 3-2 with a 2.83 ERA and 50 strikeouts through 41.1 innings of work.
