MLB Thursday same game parlay (+1086 odds): Toronto Blue Jays vs Boston Red Sox

Xander Bogaerts Red Sox

The MLB trade-deadline action is heating up, and while some big moves have already been made, there will surely be others. While we watch all of the drama unfold, there is still a ton of baseball action. Thursday’s slate features 22 teams taking the field, and what better way to take in all the action than with a same game parlay? I’ve got a same game parlay that I will share here, and it’s paying out at +1086 odds.  Before I get to that, be sure to check out our full game previews for picks on the side and total for each game today.

In this same game parlay, we are taking a look at the matchup between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox.

Boston Red Sox ML (-116)

Hyun-Jin Ryu under 4.5 strikeouts (-126)

Teoscar Hernandez to record 2+ hits (+185)

Parlay odds: +1086

We have a 3-leg parlay here, one which pays out north of 10/1 with FanDuel Sportsbook.  Let’s break it down:

Boston Red Sox ML (-116)

Hyun-Jin Ryu is not throwing the ball well right now. Over his last 9 starts, Ryu has a 4.39 ERA, and he is coming off an outing in which he allowed 10 hits in just 4.1 innings against the Mets. The Red Sox offense continues to impress, and they rank 6th in OPS against left-handed pitching this season.  Boston is also hitting a strong .273 with a .789 OPS at home, and Eduardo Rodriguez is posting a solid 2.55 ERA over his last 4 outings. He had an excellent start to the second half of the year with a shutout against the Yankees in 5.2 innings, and he allowed just 2 hits while racking up 8 strikeouts. The Red Sox are 7-3 in their last 10 meetings against the Blue Jays, and they seem to be in a favorable to position to get another win today.]

Hyun-Jin Ryu under 4.5 strikeouts (-126)

Ryu is throwing his slider at a career-low rate, and he is relying on his fastball the most since the 2016 season.  This has caused his strikeout rate to drop drastically from 26.2% last season to 19.9% this season, and his barrel rate so far in 2021 is at a career high.  In short, this is not the same Ryu we are used to seeing, and opponents are taking advantage.  He is averaging less than a strikeout per inning, and the last time he was at Fenway Park, he managed to punch out just 2 Boston hitters over 5.0 innings.

Teoscar Hernandez to record 2+ hits (+185)

Teoscar Hernandez seems to have Rodriguez’s number. In his career against the Boston left-hander, Hernandez is 7-for-17 (.412), and 3 of those 7 hits have been home runs. He is also obliterating left-handed pitching this season. The Toronto outfielder is hitting an impressive .342 with a 1.070 OPS against southpaws this season, and after going 0-for-6 in yesterday’s double-header, he is due. Right-handed batters are hitting .280 against Rodriguez this season, so it’s not like he has been dominant on the mound. Look for Hernandez to keep his success against Rodriguez going in this one.
