The MLB season rolls on with a more-than-full 16-game slate on Tuesday, May 6, thanks to a doubleheader between the Guardians and Nationals. On top of that, we have Padres vs Yankees live on TBS, as well as other exciting clashes with the likes of Giants vs Cubs and Tigers vs Rockies. With 16 games, there are tons of ways to wager on today’s diamond action, but one of the quickest bets you can make is if a run will be scored in the first inning or second inning — YRFI or NRFI. There is value to be had in this market, so it’s no wonder that these bets have become very popular over time. I have found a rare NRFI that I really like. From first glance, you may see the 2 pitchers listed and scratch your head. The numbers don’t lie though, and this one has value. Where do we begin with this YRFI/NRFI?
First off, both teams struggle to score in the 1st inning. Houston averages the fewest 1st-inning runs and just lost Yordan Alvarez to injury, which should only make things harder on them. Milwaukee scores the 3rd-fewest 1st-inning runs at home. Neither team has been lighting it up at the start of games.
Secondly, although the pitchers aren’t box office names they have both enjoyed very nice seasons so far. Hayden Wesneski has only allowed 1 run in the 1st inning over his 5 starts. Chad Patrick has only allowed 1 run and 2 hits in the 1st inning over his 6 starts.
The weather doesn’t project any high winds or any underlying reason the ball should see any extra carry here. These teams have both failed to score in the 1st inning in each of their games in May so far and I expect that to remain the case. I’m hoping for 6 easy outs and we will be on our way in this one.
