Ranking the five best college football games of 2019

The 2019 college football season was one for the ages with many classic battles taking place. There were many shocking moments and games that had epic comebacks. It’ hard to narrow it down to just five, but let’s breakdown the five best college football games of the 2019 season.

5. Hawaii 45 – Arizona 38 – August 24th

One of the most exciting games of the college football season has been forgotten by many because it happened during Week 0 of the college football season. Hawaii kept taking leads, and Arizona kept answering. The Wildcats had a chance to tie it late but they finished one yard short.

It was a game that didn’t end up mattering much, but it might have been the most exciting Week 0 game in college football history.

4. Illinois 37 – Michigan State 34 – November 9th

This was the game that made people really take notice of Illinois, and maybe the game that caused Mark Dantonio to eventually step-down. The Spartans got out to a fast start in the game leading 28-3 but the Fighting Illini came storming back.

Multiple times during the comeback they looked dead and out, but they made some improbable plays. It was a five-yard pass with little time remaining that sealed the victory for the Fighting Illini.

3. Clemson 21 – North Carolina 20 – September 28th

This was the game that almost ruined Clemson’s National Championship hopes. The Tigers offense struggled most of the game, and it looked like the Tar Heels could shock the world.

After scoring a touchdown late in the game the Tar Heels decided to go for two which the Tigers stopped. If the Tigers would have lost, the college football playoffs could have been flipped upside down.

2. Auburn 48 – Alabama 45, November 30th

This is the game that officially knocked the Crimson Tide out of the playoff race. It was both teams going back and forth and the Crimson Tide looked like they were going to tie it late.

Crimson Tide kicker Joseph Bulovas missed a thirty-yard field goal that cost them a chance. This isn’t the first time that a missed kick has hurt them against the Tigers.

1. Clemson 29 – Ohio State 23 – December 23rd

Was there really any question about what would be the top game. This was a game filled with all kinds of stars making big-time plays all over the field. The Buckeyes started the game up 16-0 before the Tigers scored 21 unanswered points.

Did we mention all of this happened in the College Football Playoff? This is not only the best game of this season, it was one of the best of the last few years.
