Good morning, Pickswise Nation. In addition to Major League Baseball we also have Thursday Night Football. Today also marks round one of the BMW Championship as the FedEx Cup Playoffs continue with stop number two out of three. It’s another big day in the world of sports, so let’s make your next bet better with Wise n’ Shine!

About Last Night

Big wins for Mets, Yankees
After losing the first two games of their series with the Braves, the Mets earned a 9-7 victory in Atlanta on Friday even though Max Scherzer gave up an uncharacteristic four runs. Meanwhile, the Yankees came back from a four-run hole against the Rays to force extra innings and then erased a three-run deficit in the 10th on a walk-off grand slam by Josh Donaldson that gave them an 8-7 win. Despite the terribly bad beat that was Rays money line, our MLB experts went 11-3 on their money line and run line picks.

In MLS, Dallas shuts out Philadelphia
Philadelphia may be the Eastern Conference leader in Major League Soccer, but home-field advantage is often an equalizer and it was just that for Dallas on Wednesday night. Dallas put the clamps down on defense and one goal was enough for a 1-0 upset. However, both Atlanta and NYFCF lost at home – to New York Red Bulls and Charlotte, respectively.

Today’s Slate

Braves and Mets wrap up four-game series
A relatively small 11-game MLB slate is in the cards, but it packs a punch. The series finale between the Mets and Braves headlines the schedule at 7:20 pm ET on ESPN+. A four-game set between the Blue Jays and Yankees is getting underway at 7:05 pm ET. Be sure to read all of our MLB previews.

Thursday Night Football
There is no need to wait for the regular season when it comes to Thursday Night Football. We have it tonight, as Week 2 of the preseason begins with the Bears visiting the Seahawks at 8:00 pm ET on ESPN. Check out all of our NFL coverage, which includes a multitude of futures plays heading into the 2022 campaign.

Best Bet of the Day

MLB: New York Yankees ML (-135) over Toronto Blue Jays
7:05 pm ET

When are the Yankees going to turn things around? Well, they may have already done just that. One win may not be a large sample size, but the way in which it came on Wednesday night could be just what the doctor ordered. A whole lot of momentum comes with a walk-off grand slam in extra innings. Toronto could be a vulnerable opponent, too. The Blue Jays are coming off a series loss to Baltimore and they are starting Jose Berrios on Thursday. Berrios has allowed more runs than every pitcher in baseball this season other than Patrick Corbin and German Marquez. Donaldson, Aaron Judge and the rest of the gang will likely tee off.

Stat of the Day

The Cardinals’ lineup is sporting a .311 batting average in 80 plate appearances against Rockies starter Antonio Senzatala. It also worth noting that Colorado has lost six of Senzatela’s seven road starts this season and four of those six losses have come by multiple runs.

Quote of the Day

“My goal is to finish as high as possible on the leaderboard. I play to win. And if not, I’m going to try to finish second; and if not, third; and so on. (Finishing) 30th is better than 31st. (It’s as simple as that, right?”

— Jon Rahm, who has finished in the top 10 at the BMW Championship four times in five appearances – including a win in 2020. Rahm is tied as a +1400 second choice behind favorite Rory McIlroy (+1000).
