Wise n' Shine: What you need to know to bet better on Thursday, August 26
Good morning Pickswise Nation and welcome to Wise n’ Shine, your one-stop shop for everything you need to know to bet better today! We’ve got another busy day of MLB action, so let’s get straight to it!
About Last Night… And This Morning!
Dodgers outlast Padres in marathon
Wise n’ Shine is coming to you today just hours after the Wednesday action finished — the Dodgers and Padres decided to stage an all-nighter, with a 16-inning epic that finished at 1am PT/4am ET! Los Angeles finally won 5-3 in a game that was 1-1 entering the 15th – it was a long time to wait for our pick of Dodgers -1.5 but we got there. The Dodgers are +280 favorites for the World Series. Congrats to the Orioles too, who ended a 19-game losing streak with a 10-6 win over the Angels. Don’t forget to read today’s MLB best bet.
MLB action rolls on
We’ve got a dream dozen of MLB games today, including the Dodgers and Padres again (if they have managed to get some sleep and have any bullpen arms left). Also on the slate, the Giants take the MLB’s best record (82-44) to face the Mets. Make sure you read our picks on the side and total for all of today’s matchups.
BMW Championship gets underway
For you earlybirds, this week’s PGA Tour event, the BMW Championship, gets underway at 9.40am ET where Tony Finau is looking to build on winning his first tournament in five years. However, our golf expert has found a three-star play at 25/1 with a player who has been red hot in his last 20 rounds. Check out our BMW Championship best bets.
Best Bet of the Day
Chicago White Sox ML vs Toronto Blue Jays
You don’t have to wait too long for this one as the White Sox and Blue Jays get going at 3:07pm ET. Carlos Rodon returns to the Chicago rotation after previously shutting down the idea that he was not the same pitcher after the sticky substance ban. He has allowed 7 earned runs in his last 26 innings pitched and his slider should give the Blue Jays problems this afternoon. Read our full game preview for this matchup.
Stat of the Day
The Orioles snapped their losing streak last night but there are still plenty of stats that are heavily against them. Today’s starter Keegan Akin has made 18 appearances and 11 starts this season, and things have not gone well. The Orioles are 1-10 in his 11 starts and just 1-17 in his 18 appearances overall. Check out our picks and predictions for Angels vs Orioles here.
Our NFL division previews continue to drop on the site and today you can read our analysis of the powerhouse NFC West division, including a breakdown of each team and a best bet the writer just loves. You can read more of our NFL betting content on the Analysis tab.
Lawrence and Bridgewater get starting jobs
Two NFL teams have settled their preseason QB battles, with Jacksonville surprising no one by announcing that rookie Trevor Lawrence will start for them and Denver naming Teddy Bridgewater their starter over Drew Lock. Lawrence is +350 favorite with FanDuel Sportsbook to be NFL Rookie of the Year.
Boost of the day
New York Yankees to hit 3+ home runs
Boosted to +650 with DraftKings Sportsbook
The Yankees blasted three home runs in Tuesday’s 5-4 win over the Braves and you can get better odds than expected if you think they can do it again when they take on the A’s today. DraftKings Sportsbook has boosted the odds on the Yankees hitting three or more homers from +525 to +650.
