Money Line Pick
ATL Braves Win(-110)

Boston’s 9th-inning rally fell just short on Tuesday, dropping the first game of the series against Atlanta 7-6. Ranger Suarez turned in his worst start of the year, surrendering 5 earned runs on 6 hits, 3 home runs and 4 walks in 5 innings. Meanwhile, Spencer Strider was okay, yielding 3 runs on 3 hits, 2 home runs and 6 walks in 5 innings, but he came away with the win.

The projected pitching matchup for Wednesday’s Game 2 is Bryce Elder vs. Connelly Early. Edler’s numbers are very good this season, boasting a 4-2 record with a 1.97 ERA and 0.99 WHIP. His advanced metrics aren’t as good, so expect some regression eventually, but an xERA right around 3.00 and an xFIP under 4.00 is still solid. Early is also 4-2, but he carries a 3.33 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP – both respectable marks in their own right. Like Edler, Early will probably regress a bit, as his xERA is 4.66 and his xFIP is 4.20.

Boston can’t seem to figure it out at home. Thanks to this current 4-game losing streak, the Sox are 8-18 SU at Fenway this season. Oddly enough, the Braves are one of the best road teams in the league at 20-8, and I’m looking for that trend to continue Wednesday. Moreover, the Braves lead the league in hits and RBIs against lefties this year, while sitting top 3 in home runs. I’m taking the Braves here at an affordable price.
