The White Sox’s apparent turnaround season continues after a win over Seattle on Tuesday. The Chi-Sox have now won 8 of their last 10 games, sitting 2 games above .500 and 2nd in the American League Central. The same can’t be said for Seattle, who has lost 5 of their last 7 games after giving up 2 9th-inning runs to lose 2-1 yesterday. 

Wednesday’s pitching matchup pits Chicago’s Sean Burke against Seattle’s Emerson Hancock. The White Sox have lost their last 2 games with Burke on the hill, as well as 6 of the 9 games he’s started this year, but the right-hander has been solid at 2-3 with a 4.10 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. Moreover, he’s had excellent control, striking out 41 while walking just 11 in 48.1 innings, though he’s just been a bit unlucky when it comes to leaving runners on base. In fact, he’s stranding fewer than 70% of base runners this season, which is below league average.

Like the White Sox and Burke, the Mariners’ results haven’t been great with Hancock on the mound. Despite his 3-2 record, 3.02 ERA and 1.01 WHIP, the M’s are 4-5 SU in his 9 starts, though each of those 5 losses were by 1 or 2 runs. Unlike Burke, Hancock has stranded over 80% of base runners, which has certainly helped to keep his ERA in check. 

No matter how you slice it, the White Sox have been one of the best power-hitting teams in the league of late, leading the MLB in home runs over the last week (13) and month (43), while sitting 2nd over the last 15 days (23). They are more middle of the pack when it comes to batting average, but they still have a big edge over the Mariners in that department – as Seattle is hitting just .191 over the last week and .233 over the last month. At a plus price, give me the White Sox to continue their run.
