Los Angeles Dodgers vs Los Angeles Angels Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 05/17/26

The Dodgers were in a slump for a couple weeks, but it seems like they’re breaking out of it after a 15-2 win on Saturday over the Angels. It was a 4th straight victory for the Dodgers, who have absolutely dominated their crosstown rivals through 2 games of the series. In fact, the Dodgers have a combined score of 21-2 through the first two games and have now surrendered just 4 total runs in the last 4 games combined

Today’s matchup is an interesting one from a pitching perspective. Roki Sasaki will take the mound for the Dodgers, and his numbers are pretty gaudy this season. The defending champions have lost 4 of their last 5 with him on the mound, as he carries a 1-3 record with a 5.88 ERA and a 1.63WHIP through 33.2 innings. In his last 2 starts combined, he gave up 11 hits and 6 earned runs, as well as 2 home runs, to go along with 9 strikeouts. He has now surrendered at least 3 runs in all but 2 of his starts this season.

Making the start opposite Sasaki will be Grayson Rodriguez, who has not pitched in the Majors since the 2024 season when he was with the Orioles. His most recent stint on the IL was due to shoulder inflammation and dead-arm soreness during Spring Training, which isn’t exactly comforting heading into a matchup with a now red-hot Dodgers lineup. The Angels seem to really like Rodriguez given they traded Taylor Ward for him, and while Rodriguez is a former top prospect, it’s going to take some time for me to be comfortable backing him. He has only thrown 9.2 innings in the minors this year, and he gave up 12 hits and 3 earned runs in that time – though it’s worth noting he also struck out 18.

Rodriguez may have upside, but I’m not stepping in front of the Dodgers right now. Look for the defending champions to continue on their offensive tear and sweep the Angels convincingly.
