Coming off a mutual day of rest following their series win in San Diego, the Los Angeles Dodgers will travel to Milwaukee to kick off a weekend series against the NL Central leaders in the Brewers. The Dodgers will send Justin Wrobleski to the mound, who has been excellent this season – boasting a 6-1 record with a 2.49 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. Across his 8 starts, he has surrendered more than 3 earned runs just once and more than 1 earned run just 3 times, though 2 of those 3 were in his last 2 outings – including a 7-run implosion against Atlanta. His advanced metrics suggest slight regression could be on the horizon, but the overall profile is hard to critique. 

Milwaukee will counter with Logan Henderson, a young right-hander with just 9 career appearances to his name. He was held back slightly due to some nagging elbow issues early this season, but in 3 May starts, Henderson has thrown 16 innings while allowing 5 runs, striking out 20 and walking just 2. Unlike Wrobleski, Henderson’s advanced metrics signal there could be room for improvement despite already carrying a 3.50 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. 

When assessing the bullpen battle, both teams are relatively even. The Dodgers have a 3.03 bullpen ERA, while the Brewers are at 3.29. Furthermore, the Dodgers relievers have surrendered a league-fewest 8 home runs, but the Brewers are just behind them in 4th (13). 

Both ball clubs are in similar offensive form, mutually sitting in the top 11 in on-base percentage over the last 15 days and in the top 7 over the last week. Combine that with the fact that Milwaukee and Los Angeles are both top 11 in runs scored over the last week despite playing only 5 games, and you will see this is a relatively even matchup – which the odds certainly depict. All things considered, I’ll lean to the home team at a slight discount.
