Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Diego Padres Prediction, Odds and Picks for Today, 05/18/26

The San Diego Padres are a team I have tried to fade for nearly 2 years now as I find the back-half of their roster to be mediocre and their depth to be lackluster. This is a spot where I think San Diego has value on their ML price, however. The Padres enter Monday’s series with the Dodgers just 0.5 games behind Los Angeles for 1st place in the NL West. This will be a crucial series to see how they stack up against the Dodgers in their home park. Los Angeles enters this series following 5 straight wins, but that brings them to just 14-14 across their past 28 games. 

Yoshinobu Yamamoto does not need to find his peak form until the playoffs to fulfill what Los Angeles needs from his right arm, but I am sure they would prefer him to pitch better than he currently is. Yamamoto enters Monday with a 3.60 ERA, 3.92 FIP, and 4.04 xERA. He ranks 23rd percentile in barrel rate and has allowed 5 home runs within his last 3 starts alone. Yamamoto is still one of the Dodgers premier arms, but with 3 or more earned runs allowed in 4 straight outings this may be a good time to catch him. San Diego also has a .916 OPS against him across 67 combined plate appearances.

Michael King is the scheduled starter for the Padres on Monday. King enters play with a 2.63 ERA across 51.1 innings of work. He allowed just 2 combined earned runs across 11.2 innings against the Brewers and Cardinals in his last 2 starts. His 3.66 xERA and 3.68 FIP are a run higher than his ERA to this point, but still superior marks to Yamamoto. King has walked too many batters for my liking, but his ability to generate ground ball outs and strikeouts should help his cause. Mason Miller is also available to close things out. At current pricing I side with the Padres at home.
