USA vs Canada lived up to expectations when they met in the group stage of the women’s hockey tournament at the 2022 Winter Olympics, and a close game is expected when the nations clash in the men’s competition on Friday (11:10pm ET).

The absence of NHL stars undeniably takes away from the occasion, but there is still plenty of interest in what is effectively a battle for top spot in Group A and a guaranteed quarter-final place.

Winter Olympics men’s ice hockey best bet: USA to beat Canada (+200)

An experienced Canadian team defeated Germany 5-1 in their opener on Thursday. The Canadians took little more than 10 minutes to race into a 3-0 lead against the 2018 silver medallists, and controlled the game from then on. The more youthful US roster also had an easy time of it on Thursday, hammering hosts China 8-0.

While the Chinese team is certainly lacking in quality, their roster is the Kunlun Red Star team from the KHL, so they could have been expected to have an edge in terms of chemistry. However, the Americans fired 55 shots on the Chinese goal, with Harvard University forward Sean Farrell picking up a hat-trick in a 5-point game. The US youngsters will be fired up after that result and look worth a bet on the money line at +200 with DraftKings Sportsbook.

Winter Olympics men’s biathlon sprint best bet: Alexander Loginov (+800)

Men’s biathlon individual gold medallist Quentin Fillon-Maillet and Norwegian World Cup champion Johannes Thingnes Boe head the betting for the sprint, which starts at 4:00 am ET on Saturday. However, Russian Alexander Loginov looks the best bet at +800. Loginov was part of the bronze medal-winning mixed relay team and would have taken gold in the individual had he cleared all 5 targets in the final standing shoot. Three of his 4 World Cup race victories have been in the sprint, the most recent of those coming at Oberhof a month ago. He also won the World Championship race in that discipline in 2020.
