The 2022 Winter Olympics women’s hockey tournament has reached the semi-final stage and barring a huge upset Canada and the United States will be meeting in the final for the 6th time in the 7 occasions the sport has been on the Winter Olympics program.

The Canadians take to the ice first on Sunday, facing Switzerland at 11:10pm ET. The teams met in their opening group game, with Canada emerging 12-1 winners — the first of 3 times that they have put up a double-digit score. Marie-Philip Poulin and her teammates are asked to give up 7.5 goals on the spread this time, but the best bet comes in the USA game early on Monday morning, US time.

Winter Olympics women’s ice hockey best bet: USA -3.5 vs Finland (+112)

The US women also face a repeat of their opening group game against Finland, with puck drop at 8:10am ET Monday. While the Americans haven’t posted the huge-margin wins that Canada have, they have put more than 50 shots on goal in all of their games — including against the Canadians.

Whether the US team is guilty of favouring quantity over quality of shots, or whether they’ve just not had the puck luck is a matter of debate. But what is undeniable is that the Finns were hugely flattered by the 5-2 scoreline in that group-stage opener.

The American team could easily have been 10-0 up after 2 periods of that contest and taking them to cover a 3.5-goal spread looks the best play.
