The golf season’s final major — glory’s last shot, so to speak — is taking place this week, as the British Open is held at Royal Liverpool. Whereas the PGA Championship used to be the final big one annually, now it’s the Open that wraps things up in style.

As long as his energy levels aren’t zapped after last week, I’m holding out hope for Bobby Mac to keep it going this week and prevail. I’ll take him as an outright at 80/1 and top Euro at 22/1. He has the momentum, hunger and power to scale back off the tee and play longer iron shots into these greens.
I was so impressed with David Lingmerth last week in Scotland that I knew I wanted to pick him for something this week. He finished T3 (double-bogeys from Tommy Fleetwood and Tyrrell Hatton on their closing hole massively boosted him!) and he qualified for the Open. He’s a very short, accurate hitter and his putter was on fire last week — gaining 2.5 strokes on the field.

Morikawa won the British Open in 2021 but followed that up with a missed cut last year at St. Andrews.
