Best player props for Monday's NHL slate: Meier puts the pressure on

Timo Meier

Monday brings us 8 games on the NHL docket. That means we have plenty of options when trying to find value in the prop market. In this article, I am taking a look at 2 specific matchups and breaking down my favorite props of the day. Along with this article, be sure to check out our full game previews for each NHL matchup.

Timo Meier over 3.5 shots (-110)

Line available at FanDuel at time of publishing

San Jose’s Timo Meier is putting a ton of shots on goal this season. On the year, Meier has fired 140 shots on goal in 34 games, which averages out to 4.12 shots per game. Only 4 players in the league have put more shots on goal. Over his last 5 games, Meier has exceeded this total 4 times. Meier loves to shoot the puck, and isn’t afraid to generate traffic near the net.

Tonight, Meier and the Sharks face the Los Angeles Kings. LA has allowed just 4 total goals over their last 4 games. Scoring has been tough for the Sharks lately, as they have managed to score only 1 goal over their last 2 games, and they are averaging 2 goals per game over their last 6 contests. However, that doesn’t mean they won’t come out with an aggressive mindset against their in-state rival. Even in their most recent losses, San Jose fired 41 shots on goal against Pittsburgh, and 37 shots on goal against the Rangers. Look for San Jose to come out firing, with Meier leading the charge.

Claude Giroux under 2.5 shots (-126)

Line available at FanDuel at time of publishing

Claude Giroux often tries to make plays with his passing skills as opposed to lighting the lamp with his goal-scoring ability. He is a great passer with great vision, so trying to set up his teammates makes sense. Giroux doesn’t fire shots on goal at a rapid pace, as he is 3rd on his team in shots on goal this season with 89. Through 34 games, he is averaging 2.62 shots per game on the year. He has stayed under 2.5 shots in 3 of his last 4 games, and I like the under again tonight. Giroux and the Flyers take on the Islanders, and Giroux is averaging 2.33 shots per game in his career against them. Typically known for their defense-first mentality, the Islanders should be able to limit Giroux from being too aggressive with the puck in tonight’s contest.
