Wise n' Shine: What you need to know to bet better on Tuesday, July 12
Welcome to another tremendous Tuesday of sports. Today’s schedule includes a big MLB slate and an MLS game, and we’re building up to the British Open golf at St Andrews too, so let’s get straight to making your next bet better!
About Last Night
YRFI/NRFI streak reaches 10-0!
The stunning success of our new daily first-inning best bets article continued on Monday as Caleb Wilfinger went 2-0 for the 3rd straight day, taking our run to an incredible 10-0 and 12-2 since the column began. Keith Schmelter, who began the 10-0 run with a 2-0 day, last Thursday, is stepping up to the plate today with two NRFI picks. We were also 2-0 on MLB props yesterday thanks to Javan Shouey and a bonus NRFI play from Mark Zinno. On the diamond, the Royals won both legs of their doubleheader with the Tigers, the Rays beat the Red Sox 10-5 and Max Scherzer won his battle against Max Fried as the Mets beat the Braves 4-1.
16 MLB games today
We have a supersized 16-game MLB slate today, with the White Sox and Guardians playing a doubleheader, the first game of which is being shown on ESPN+ at 1:10 pm ET. Dodgers vs Cardinals is being shown on TBS at 7:45 pm ET. Check out today’s MLB game previews.
Midweek MLS matches
The majority of the midweek MLS soccer slate takes place tomorrow, but Houston and Austin are facing off tonight and we have predictions for today’s game.
Best Bet of the Day
MLB: New York Yankees -1.5 over Cincinnati Reds
7:05 pm ET
It’s tough to find any aspect of the game in which the Yankees are not among the best and the Reds are not among the worst. All of the dominant numbers for the Yankees aren’t a surprise anymore, and it has made it difficult to find value in their games. However, the run line still has value. The Yankees can comfortably add to their league-best 34-9 home record behind the arm of Gerrit Cole. Read our full game preview for Reds vs Yankees.
Enhance your sports betting knowledge by watching our daily sports betting show Let’s Bet It! at 10:00 am ET.
Lauren Jbara and Mark Zinno are your hosts today, and they will be joined by KBSports, host of the Bettor’s Box podcast, to discuss today’s best baseball bets.

There’s no need to wait any longer, you can get the British Open Championship picks of our golf analyst Diane Knox Balas right now as she bids to follow up her recent wins at 10/1, 30/1 and 55/1. There are also a couple of British Open Championship props plays that she likes.

Quote of the Day
“I can see it being low, but I can’t see something in the 20-under range. Everyone has seen how firm and fast the fairways are and it’s going to get pretty tricky at the end of the week.”
Rory McIlroy expects some good scoring at St Andrews this week, but thinks conditions will prevent a course-record score in the 150th Open Championship.
